Brown Bag Brownies

From the kitchen of One Perfect Bite...This is a perfect brownie to tuck into a school lunch box or family picnic hamper. These bars are moist and densely chocolate, but they keep their shape and are neater to eat than most others I've tried. The brownies are simple to make and almost impossible to spoil. However, overbaking them will produce a brownie that is dry and quite ordinary, so do mind the time as these bake. This is one of those recipes that is perfect for beginning bakers to tackle and more experienced cooks will appreciate the ease with which the brownies come together. I do hope you'll give the recipe a try. Here is how the brownies are made.

Brown Bag Brownies...from the kitchen of One Perfect Bite inspired by Taste of Home magazine

Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter, cubed
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
Confectioners' sugar

Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
2) In a microwave, melt butter and chocolate. Stir until smooth. Cool slightly.
3) In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar. Stir in chocolate mixture. Beat in extract. Gradually add flour to chocolate mixture.
4) Scrape mixture into prepared pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Do not overbake!
5) Cool completely on a wire rack. Cut into squares. Just before serving, sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Yield: 2 dozen.

  3. Mary, One of my wife's favorite foods! Dense and moist is best with a little whipped cream for good measure... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  4. This looks so easy, and I bet adding the orange extract gives it a great flavor. Think I will try it.
