National Coffee Cake Day - Coffee Cake Retrospective

From the kitchen of One Perfect Bite...Left to my own devices, I'd be late for the second coming. I guarantee that I wouldn't be featuring coffee cakes on National Coffee Cake Day if someone else hadn't provided memory cues and prodded me along. Last year I bumbled my way into two sites that were as interesting as they were original. One was called Tasteful Inventions and the other was called Month's of Edible Celebrations. One site looks at the who and what of food creation and invention and the other is a fascinating compilation of dates and related recipes for food lovers who like to have others do research for them. That would be me. Louise, the creative force behind those blogs, spread the word that April 7th was National Coffee Cake Day. So, here we are. Easter is coming and I suspect you're starting to put menus together for the holiday. I'll be posting new recipes for coffee cakes for the remainder of the week, but I thought I'd get started with a retrospective of what's come before. I hope you find something of interest in the recipes that follow. Clicking on the name of the coffee cake will take you to the recipe for it.

  5. Well, I have never seen you post so early in the evening! What a cool assortment of coffee cakes. The Belgian one doesn't even look like a coffee cake, more like bread. The "Real" coffee cake doesn't look like what I think of as coffee cake at all. All I know is, it's 10:30 P.M. and I want some cake and coffee before bed. Good thing I have lots of decaf!! But I will have to settle for a leftover half slice of chocolate mint cake from the grocery bakery.

  6. National Coffee Cake day, who knew, these all look wonderful. My Gary's grandmother used to make a bread with cardomom and we used to love it; that last bread shape reminds me of it.

  7. I remember the first time I found out about coffee cake in the US; I was living in California and saw them on sale at the superarkets. Made some since, and I really love the idea of a coffee cake. Especially if it is homemade.

They all look wonderful. I remember when the mothers in my neighborhood would have coffee together and there would be a coffee cake. Then everyone went back to work. Now that I have a tea break every afternoon, I may have to just have a little sweet with it. Nice.
