Lime Milk Shake
From the kitchen of One Perfect Bite...I know times have changed, and that there is much to commend the conveniences that have come our way, but there is a part of me that mourns the demise of stores that were once part of our old neighborhoods. Bob and I grew up in an area that had a penny candy store and an ice cream parlor where weekly allowances could be spent. Holstein's, the ice cream parlor, had a distinctive smell, that is, to this day, unforgettable. No amount of scrubbing could rid the tiled walls and floor of the scent of chocolate and vanilla that permeated the shop. If you were led blindfolded into the store, you would still know exactly where you were. The "usual" was a scoop of ice cream, but on special occasions there would be a sundae or one of Holstein's special shakes. Bob remembers the shakes with fondness, and every so often I try to recreate one for him. I came across this recipe in an old issue of Taste of Home magazine and the first time I tried it, I knew it was a keeper. When it is made with limes, it will appeal to those who love tart-sweet desserts. When made with oranges, it will appeal to those who prefer sweeter treats. This mixture freezes well and makes wonderful Popsicles for children of all ages. I hope you'll give this recipe a try. I know you won't be disappointed. Here's how the shakes are made.

I love the taste of citrus! Really refreshing!
affordable medical insurance
What a refreshing and simple dessert shake. I just love lime. Great idea!
There WAS something special about the ice cream parlors and the candy stores wasn't there? I guess today's kids have McDonald's and Wendy's!!! I remember a similar treat called a Lime Rickey and you got to keep the glass!!! I was in high school then and I'm not sure what my mother did with all those glasses but . . .
I am enjoying all the lime treats!! blessings ~ Tanna
Lime is so big right now and this looks like the perfect way to enjoy it
Oh, that does look so pretty! And now that I have an immersion blender, these things don't scare me anymore. (My junky blender died, I never replaced it and didn't want a new one to haul out!) My childhood memory of ice cream is Hank's Frozen Custard -- so good because it was made with lard!
Beautiful photo I can just taste it through the screen!
Now I wonder where I can get some limeade?? Diane
Mary steps to the plate (pun intended)....The bases are loaded. There are two outs in the ninth....The pitcher throws....MARY HITS A HOME RUN!....BACBACKBACK....IT'S OUTTA' HERE!
Yes, you are our cleanup hitter---who'd'a thunk of a milkshake? Oh yes, the memories....
Looks great and so refreshing!
Yum!
Refreshing! I haven't had this before but I know I am going to love it! Thanks for sharing!
I used to go to a snack shop in our neighborhood for a pineapple freeze that was a combination of ice cream, pineapple sherbert and lemon lime soda. So good! This reminds me of that delicious mixture.
I'll will try it, for sure. I'm very found of lime... Plus, I will prepare some popsicles for the children in me:)
I've always been sort of jealous of people that grew up where actual candy stores with ice cream parlors... I feel like I missed out big time :)
The shake looks so incredibly perfect...wish I had one right now!!
This recipe looks easy enough for me!!!! I loved the corner store at the end of my grandmother's street. She'd give us a few coins and we'd go get a candy bar or an ice cream treat. Of course, when my mother was a teenager, it was a really cool place with a soda fountain and everything. Now, it's a trendy restaurant.
I love old neighborhood stores and shops and silver fox's milkshake looks great.
Mary - I also mourn the loss of the old penny stores and family-owned shops. I wish we could hold on to them a little while longer.
This milkshake is a treat that I've never seen before, but will be sure to print out and keep. My Mom, a true lover of all things lime, will absolutely love it!

My mom and I will still go to the one mom and pop shop left in town on the weekends during the summer and have a treat. My mom just loves the seasonal shakes they make. I'm sure she would love this.
Yum! What a great summer twist on the milkshake!
This looks wonderful, I love lime. Do you know, years back, one of my favorite treats was a bowl of lime sherbet with Hershey's syrup all over it. I makes me rather sick to think of that now, though!
Never had this before...you made me go back and remember the ice cream truck in Vancouver...I was in my 20's and I was so delighted anytime I'd hear the music
I don't think I've ever had a citrusy shake before, but it sounds so refreshing!
Yum sounds really good!
YUMMMM!! I'm gonna try that!
Delicious and fresh Mary, xgloria
